ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Despite a pair of goals from
Consuelo Torres Moore, the Maryville field hockey team was edged out 3-2 on a penalty stroke in overtime by Roberts Wesleyan in the season opener for both teams.
Cloey Turiello assisted on both Saints goals.

How it Happened:
The Redhawks carried the early action and had four shots on goal but Maryville goalie
Jojo Cox stood tall and turned away each attempt. The hosts broke through early in the second quarter and eventually took that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Maryville pulled even in the third during the 38th minute. The Saints earned a penalty corner but the initial action was stopped. The ball bounced back to Turiello who found Torres Moore parked in front of the RWC cage and tipped in a shot to the right side to tie the game at 1-1.

The Redhawks scored with less than 10 minutes to play to jump back ahead 2-1. In the final minutes, the Saints pulled goalie Cox for an extra attacker. Maryville again earned a penalty corner, and again Turiello found Torres Moore in the middle of the Redhawks' goal to tie the score with 2:42 left to play in the game.

The contest moved into overtime with seven-on-seven play. The Redhawks had a golden opportunity to win the game on a breakaway chance but Cox made splendid back-to-back saves to keep the game tied at 2-2. The Maryville defense stood tall with two more Cox saves and a defensive stop by
Sophia Newton. However, at the 65:56 mark in OT, the Redhawks were awarded a penalty stroke and converted to win the contest.
