ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Maryville women's soccer team controlled possession and outshot Missouri Western but was unable to find an equalizer in a 1-0 loss Saturday morning at Spratt Stadium.
The Saints held 58% of the possession and finished with advantages in total shots (8-6) and shots on goal (5-4). Missouri Western scored the match's lone goal in the 58th minute.
Emily Doane led Maryville with two shots on goal, while
Agnes Vilen made three saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville earned three corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes but was unable to turn the early pressure into a goal.
Allison Estanich registered the Saints' first attempt in the 16th minute before Doane forced a save in the 43rd.
The Saints continued to apply pressure after halftime, earning three consecutive corner kicks between the 53rd and 54th minutes.
Helene Braren produced a shot during the sequence, but her attempt was blocked.
Missouri Western broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
Maryville responded with four shots on goal over the next 19 minutes. Doane,

Anne van Son and Braren each tested the Griffons' goalkeeper, but all four attempts were saved.
Gabby Tucker recorded the Saints' final shot in the 83rd minute, sending an attempt wide right as Missouri Western held on for the victory.
