Nate Vogel joined the women’s basketball staff prior to the 2015-16 season. Vogel is the Defensive Coordinator for the women's basketball team. He is responsible for designing and implementing defensive strategies and systems.
Vogel was an assistant coach on the men's basketball staff for the 2014-15 season in which he helped lead the Saints to a berth in the Elite 8 of the GLVC postseason tournament.
Vogel arrived at the University after spending two seasons as the head coach at Lutheran-St. Charles High School in St. Peters, Mo.
In 2013-14, Vogel guided Lutheran-St. Charles to a 16-11 record, while competing in the Archdiocesan Athletic Conference (AAA). In his first season at LHS, Vogel led the Cougars to a 14-win season, eclipsing the previous year’s mark by eight games.
Prior to coaching in the high school ranks, Vogel served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., for two years. While at SIU, he worked with both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. During his tenure, the SIU men’s basketball team won two conference championships and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 under coach Chris Lowery.
Following his collegiate playing career at Black Hills State (SD) University, Vogel served as an assistant coach at Spearfish High School for two years. He helped guide SHS to two conference and district championships as well as two State Final Four appearances.
Vogel was a captain and three-year starter during his playing career at Black Hills State. BHSU experienced unprecedented success at the NAIA level during his tenure, reaching an Elite 8 and a Sweet 16 in two national tournaments. BHSU climbed as high as No. 2 in the national polls during Vogel's playing days. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching.
In 2005, Vogel and his wife, Tracie, opened their own personal training studio in Cottleville, Mo. They opened a second location in O’Fallon, Mo, in 2008. Vogel was named Small Business Owner of the year by the Cottleville/Weldon Spring Chamber of Commerce in 2011.
Vogel prides himself in being involved in the community and charitable endeavors. He previously sat on the Board of Advisors of the St. Charles County YMCA. Vogel is a former Board Member of the CWS Chamber of Commerce. He is the past president of the Rotary Club of St. Peters and the founder and President of the St. Louis chapter of Room to Read.
