Mike Haston begins his fourth season as head coach of the Maryville men's volleyball program. Haston was the inaugural coach for the NCAA Division I Saints, beginning in the 2022 season. Under his leadership, the team has recorded 51 wins, with 21 of those coming in the 2024 season. During his tenure, the Saints have earned five All-Conference awards, seven Player of the Week honors and three AVCA Team Academic Awards.
Before taking the helm of the Men’s Volleyball program at Maryville, Haston spent four seasons as an assistant coach for the NCAA Division II Saints Women’s volleyball team. He also served as Head Men’s Coach at Fontbonne University (NCAA Division III) starting in 2013, where he left as the program’s all-time winningest coach with a 51-29 record over his final three seasons. Haston had been an assistant coach for the Griffins since 2007.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Haston has worked at the club level with St. Louis High Performance Volleyball and was the varsity head coach at Fox High School in Arnold, Mo., for five years. A native of St. Louis, Haston played volleyball at Parkway North High School, where he contributed to back-to-back Missouri State Championships in 2001 and 2002. He continued his volleyball career at the University of Tennessee, playing club volleyball from 2003 to 2007. In 2018, he was inducted into UT’s Club Hall of Fame.
Haston holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in special education from Webster University. He is an IMPACT certified coach and has earned a CAP Level 2 certification through USA Volleyball. Haston has also coached at various volleyball camps across the country, including those at Colorado State and with the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program.
