A familiar name joins the Maryville University volleyball staff as Abigail Moser has been announced as a volunteer assistant coach for the Saints. She is the daughter of head coach Gretchen Moser and comes to the Saints after one season as an assistant coach at Saint Leo University in Florida.
Â
In her one season with the Lions, Moser helped the program earn its first NCAA South Region Championship and a berth into the NCAA DII Elite Eight. She helped two SLU standouts earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors.
Â
Moser was the head coach at Quincy University for two seasons. In her first year at QU, she helped Rebekah Raebel earn first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors. Moser’s leadership and teachings led the Hawks to rank third in the GLVC in digs per set in 2017 and second in 2018 at 18.94 dps. She had a perfect graduation rate in her two seasons at the helm. Before being promoted to head coach, Moser was an assistant at QU for two seasons. She focused primarily on the team’s defense and helped the Hawks finish third in the GLVC in digs per set in 2016. The team never ranked lower than third in the GLVC in digs per set during any of the seasons she spent at Quincy as either a head or assistant coach.
Â
A graduate of Lafayette High School, Moser started 134 matches as the libero at Truman State. She helped the Bulldogs win the 2014 GLVC Tournament championship. She remains the Bulldogs' all-time leader in digs (2,415) and digs per set (4.75). Moser was voted the 2014 GLVC Libero of the Year and named to the All-Midwest Region squad. She earned the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week four times in her collegiate career.
Â
In addition to her successes with a nationally competitive collegiate program, Moser was previously part of two highly regarded prep programs in the Rockwood Thunder VBC and Lafayette High School, where she also received recognition for her defensive play. Moser was named to the Under Armour/AVCA All-American watch list, and she earned nominations to Missouri's All-Region and All-State teams.
Â
Moser graduated from Truman State in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and earned her master’s degree in special education from Quincy in 2017.
