Tritons Slide Past Saints in Women's Soccer

The University of Missouri-St. Louis scored twice in each half to hand Maryville a 4-0 defeat in the Great Lakes Valley Conference finale on a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon at Maryville Field.

Alex Reis nearly put the Saints on top with two strong scoring chances midway in the first half. Her first shot was blocked just short of the goal, and her second blast was turned aside by the UMSL keeper. The Tritons then pushed across two goals in less than a minute to take a 2-0 lead. UMSL kept its two-goal margin and took that advantage into halftime.

The Saints generated an excellent scoring opportunity when Meagan Parson hammered a long shot towards the UMSL net. However, her blast was turned aside as Maryville continued to try and cut into the UMSL advantage. The Tritons kept the Saints off the scoreboard and sealed the victory with two goals deep into the second half.

The Saints close out the 2011 season with a 4-12-1 mark, 4-10 in the GLVC. The Tritons improve to 9-8 overall, 8-7 in the conference.
