Volleyball Participates in GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tourney

THIS WEEK:
The Maryville volleyball team takes a break from Great Lakes Valley Conference action to participate in the fifth annual Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill. The Saints face Walsh at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, Lake Erie at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, and close the tournament against Tiffin at 4 p.m.
 
THE GLVC/GLIAC CROSSOVER:
The event pits 16 GLVC schools against 16 teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Every school will play three schools from the other conference. The league that posts the best combined record will earn the Crossover traveling trophy. The GLIAC won the trophy the first two years, but the GLVC was won the prize the last two seasons. MORE ON MARYVILLE:
Mikaela Lahm leads the Saints (2-16, 1-8 GLVC) with 157 kills and 40 blocks. Hana Michael is second on the squad with 120 kills mark along with a team-best 178 digs. Taryn Trubich has upped her assist total to 268, and Megan Baumgartner has added 196 assists. Hannah Seitter has handled 168 digs to rank second on the team.
 
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S OPPONENTS:
Walsh is 5-9 overall, 3-6 in the GLIAC and led by Julianne O’Donnell’s 155 kills and 145 digs. Lake Erie has a 3-12 record and is winless in the league. Jamie Hoppe leads the squad with 105 kills, and Rachel Ritt has a team-high 129 digs. Tiffin is 5-10 overall, 1-8 in the GLIAC. Danielle McQuade is third in the league with 3.76 kills per set, while Jordan Jenkins has a team-best 259 digs. The Dragons lead the GLIAC in digs with 16.44 per set.
 
LAST WEEK:
The Saints dropped two road contests at McKendree last Saturday, then fell at Bellarmine Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.
 
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Saints begin a three-game homestand Thursday, Oct. 18, when they host Missouri Baptist for a 7 p.m. match. Maryville takes on Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday, Oct. 20, and Southern Indiana Sunday, Oct. 21.
