Saints Reach Season High in Hitting Percentage to Sweep Lake Erie

Maryville set a season high with a .294 hitting percentage to fuel a 3-0 sweep over Lake Erie to open the final day of action at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill. Set scores were 25-15, 25-13, 25-20. The Saints take on Tiffin later today to end the tourney.
 
Against the Storm, the Saints held a narrow 10-9 lead before taking command with five straight points. Mikaela Lahm had a kill start the run, and LEC committed a hitting error. Laura Welling followed up with back-to-back kills. Hana Michael closed the run with a service ace for a 15-9 Saints lead. Lake Erie got as close as three points before kills by Demi Maniaci and Welling helped the Saints hold on.
 
Trailing in set two 4-1, the Saints scored seven of the next nine points to surge into the lead. Maryville kept a small margin at 15-12 until mounting an 8-0 run to build a double digit lead and ease to a 2-0 lead.
 
In the final set, Maryville was down 13-12 before rattling off three straight points to surge ahead. Holding onto an 18-16 advantage, a kill by Samantha Callahan started another 3-0 burst for a 21-16 lead. LEC got as close as 23-20 until a kill by Maniaci and a block by Lahm and Taryn Trubich ended the match.
 
The Saints (3-17) committed only 15 hitting errors en route to their strong hitting mark. Lahm led Maryville with 11 kills on just 18 swings for a .556 hitting percentage, while Michael added nine kills and a team-high 12 digs. Trubich had a strong all-around match with 30 assists, seven kills, a .417 hitting percentage to go along with four digs and three blocks.
