Maryville’s volleyball looked to build a two-game winning streak at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover tournament but was stopped by Tiffin 25-18, 25-12, 25-18 in Aurora, Ill.
Neither team led by more than one point to open the match until the score reached 10-10. Tiffin scored two straight points but a kill by
Samantha Callahan and a service ace by
Taryn Trubich tied the game again at 12. The Dragons answered with the next three points.
Hana Michael notched a kill and an ace to draw Maryville to 15-14 but Tiffin stretched out to a four-point lead and held on for the win.
In the second set, Michael recorded a kill to pull Maryville to 7-6 before Tiffin scored five straight points. Callahan ended the run with a kill. However, the Dragons used a 4-0 to take a 2-0 lead. The Saints scored the first two points of set three on a kill by Callahan and a Tiffin hitting error until the Dragons forged a 5-5 tie. Tiffin used a 5-1 run to take a lead it would not give up. Michael and
Demi Maniaci had kills on three of the next four serves but Tiffin would not give up the lead to the Saints and closed out the match.
Lahm led Maryville (3-18) with 10 kills, while Michael added eight kills.
Jamie Kloss recorded a match-high 12 digs, while Trubich finished with 23 assists. Tiffin (6-11) had a strong hitting outing and finished with a .341 mark.
