In the 2012 season finale, the Maryville women’soccer team was dealt a 2-1 overtime loss at the University of Missouri-St. Louis when the Tritons struck just 38 seconds into the first overtime session.

Midway through the first half, the Saints had a scoring chance when Jen Jung pushed a ball through the UMSL defense but Hana McGinis’ shot was saved. With 17:27 left to play before halftime the Saints grabbed a 1-0 lead. Shannon Foley collected a through ball from McGinis in the middle of UMSL’s defense, and Foley slid the ball to the left side of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Five minutes later, the Tritons drew even on Liz Drennan’s first goal of the season as the game was tied 1-1 at intermission.

McGinis had the best early scoring chance for the Saints in the second half when her header was saved at the far post by UMSL keeper Kaitlyn Smugala. In the 70th minute, the Tritons almost scored but Saints keeper Mandy Browning, who came on at halftime, made the save. Alex Reis nearly put the Saints ahead in the 69th minute of play when she ran onto a ball from Jen Jung, but Reis’ shot was just deflected away. In the final minute of regulation, UMSL nearly scored on a scramble in front of the next, but Browning emerged with the ball to preserve the 1-1 score.

However, just 38 seconds into overtime, Drennan scored on a tap in after a feed from the far post to give the Tritons (4-11-2 overall, 4-10-1 GLVC) the victory. The Saints end their season with a record of 4-10-4 overall, 3-8-4 in the GLVC.
