Volleyball Treks to McKendree and Bellarmine

THIS WEEK:
Coming off its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win last weekend, the Maryville volleyball team makes the short trip to Lebanon, Ill., Saturday, Oct. 6, for a 5 p.m. match at McKendree. The Saints then travel to Louisville, Ky., Sunday to challenge Bellarmine.
           
MORE ON MARYVILLE:
Mikaela Lahm leads the Saints (2-14, 1-6 GLVC) with 146 kills and 37 blocks. Hana Michael is second on the squad with 110 kills mark along with a team-best 168 digs. Taryn Trubich has handed out 242 assists, while Megan Baumgartner has added 193 assists. Hannah Seitter has handled 160 digs to rank second on the team.
 
ABOUT McKENDREE:
The Bearcats are 6-12 overall, 2-5 in the conference and have dropped their last six contests. Lauren Apetz leads the team with 184 kills while hitting .289 with a team-high 41 blocks, and Maureen Nesbit has recorded 176 kills. Maddie Kelly ranks third in the GLVC with 339 digs. Abby Hanger has 663 assists on the year.
 
ABOUT BELLARMINE:
The Knights are 7-4 overall, 4-3 in the GLVC. Paula Bryns and Alyson Harmeling are tied for the team lead with 118 kills apiece. Lucy Knott has 26 blocks, while Jaclyn Ohlmann heads the defense with 191 digs and tops the conference in digs per set at 5.16. Bellarmine ranks third in the league in hitting percentage at .236.
 
LAST WEEK:
Laura Welling recorded a career-high 14 kills as the Saints downed Drury 3-1 to claim their first GLVC victory of the season. Mikaela Lahm added 12 kills and six blocks to bolster the attack. Welling followed up with 13 kills but the Saints were unable to establish a two-match winning streak and fell to Missouri S&T.
 
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Saints take a break from league action as they participate in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament Oct. 12 and 13 in Aurora, Ill. Matchups against the GLIAC teams will be announced next week.
