Wisconsin-Parkside’s Ashley Meyer scored three minutes into the second overtime session to give the visiting Rangers a 1-0 victory over Maryville Friday on a chilly evening at Scott Gallagher Fields in Maryland Heights, Mo. The Saints have seen five of their last six games reach overtime, and four have gone to double overtime.
In cold, wet and windy conditions, neither team generated many strong scoring changes.
Sam Poteet put three good shots on goal from distance. She had the Saints’ best scoring chance when she struck the crossbar on a free kick from approximately 35-yards out late in the second half. Maryville keeper
Mandy Browning made four saves through the first 100 minutes of action before the Rangers finally broke through. Madison Pickett lifted a pass in from the left wing, and in a scramble, Meyer collected the ball and pushed it into the right edge of the net for the winner.
The Saints slip to 2-7-3 overall, 1-5-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Rangers improve to 7-3-1 overall, 6-3 in the league. Maryville returns to play Sunday when it hosts Lewis.
