Saints Rally to Force Fifth Set against William Jewell Before Falling

In its season finale, the Maryville volleyball team rallied to force a decisive fifth set before dropping a 3-2 decision to William Jewell. The Cardinals won the match 25-17, 30-28, 19-25, 23-25, 15-9.
 
In the final set, Mikaela Lahm had a kill to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. After the Cardinals tied the set, the Saints went back up 2-1. The contest was tied 3-3 before William Jewell surged ahead with five straight points. Demi Maniaci ended the Saints drought with a kill, and Taryn Trubich tipped in a cross-court shot to pull Maryville to 8-5. However, WJC took control with four straight points and held the Saints off.
 
For the Saints (4-27, 2-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference), Lahm finished with 16 kills and eight blocks, while Laura Welling also finished with 16 kills. Hana Michael registered a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs to go along with three blocks. Demi Maniaci was the fourth Saint to reach double figures in kills with 10. Taryn Trubich also finished a double-double on 37 assists and 14 digs. Senior Jamie Kloss finished with a team-high 17 digs to lead the defensive efforts. The Saints finished the match with 64 kills, their second-highest total of the season, and also had 11 team blocks the third time they reached double-figures in that category. Christina Pratt led the Cardinals (13-17, 7-11 GLVC) with 15 kills.
