Maryville had three players record double-doubles but fell in four sets at Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference volleyball play Saturday afternoon. The Hawks won 25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15.
Leading 5-3 in the opening set,
Demi Maniaci had a kill as the Saints reeled off four straight points to build a 9-3 advantage. The Hawks scored five of the next six and eventually forged a tie at 12-12. The score was still tied at 16 all before Quincy took an 18-16 lead.
Hana Michael’s kill brought the Saints to 19-18 but Maryville was unable to force a tie as the Hawks took the set 25-22.
Maryville scored five of the first six points in set two boosted by
Mikaela Lahm’s two kills. After a QU error, Michael terminated a point for an 8-3 Saints lead. Quincy slowly cut into its deficit and tied the score at 12. Lahm’s kill put the Saints back on top, before the Hawks knotted the set 15-15. After six more ties, Quincy had two straight hitting errors to hand the Saints a 23-21 lead. Micheal’s kill pushed the Saints to set point. The Hawks saved one but Maniaci’s kill gave Maryville a 25-22 win to square the match 1-1.
Quincy led 8-7 in the third before the Saints scored five unanswered points. After two consecutive QU miscues,
Hannah Seitter served an ace, and
Samantha Callahan picked up a kill. Michael’s kill gave Maryville its biggest lead at 12-8. Quincy answered with its own 5-0 run. The Saints tied the set at 13-all but the Hawks went on a 5-1 run to take control.
Tied 2-2 in the fourth set, after a QU service error,
Kelsey Warden’s ace built a 4-2 Saints cushion. Michael recorded a kill, and an error by QU pushed Maryville’s lead to 6-3. The Saints still led 8-5 but the Hawks scored four straight to take the lead. Another kill by Michael tied the set at 14-14 but Quincy tallied five in a row for a 19-14 margin.
Julia Greaves had a kill to end the run before the Hawks closed out the match.
Michael had 10 kills and 10 digs, while Lahm also finished with 10 kills.
Taryn Trubich recorded 16 assists and 15 digs, and Seitter added 11 assists and 11 digs.
Jamie Kloss led Maryville (4-25 overall, 2-14 GLVC) with 17 digs. Briann Joslin led Quincy (14-13 overall, 7-9 in the league) with 18 kills, while Damaris Linker had a match-high 24 digs.
