Lahm Leads Saints with 10 Kills Versus Rockhurst

Junior Mikaela Lahm led Maryville with 10 kills but Rockhurst used a steady attack to post a 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 victory over the Saints Friday night in St. Louis.
 
The Hawks scored eight of the first 10 points of the match to grab the early momentum in set one. Lahm had a kill as the Saints edged closer. Maryville had a quick 3-0 run after a Lahm kill, Hana Michael finish and a Rockhurst error to cut the gap to 15-10. However, the Hawks answered with a 3-0 to rebuild an eight-point lead.
                             
In the second set, the Saints scored two straight points on a Rockhurst hitting error and a block by Lahm and Demi Maniaci. The Hawks closed to 5-4 before Maryville responded with a 3-0 run. Laura Welling had two straight kills to start the run, and a Rockhurst error handed the Saints an 8-4 edge. A kill by Lahm maintained a 9-6 lead but the Hawks forced a 9-9 tie. Trailing 10-9, Welling picked up a kill to tie the set. The Hawks edged ahead and led 23-16 before the Saints scored four unanswered to cut the gap to 23-20. However, Rockhurst held on for a 25-20 win.
 
Set three was tied at 9-9 before Rockhurst edged ahead 12-9. A block by Lahm and Maniaci and a Hawk hitting error drew the Saints to 12-11. Down 21-15, Marvyille tallied three consecutive points on two Rockhurst errors and a Welling ace. The Saints could not draw any closer as the Hawks won another set 25-20.
 
In addition to her 10 kills, Lahm added four blocks for the Saints (4-26, 2-15). Jamie Kloss chipped in a match-high 16 digs, and Michael added 10 digs. Katie Loescher and Kelsey Stratman led Rockhurst (24-6, 13-4) with 10 kills apiece.
