THE 2012 SCHEELS GLVC TOURNAMENT
With two wins already, Maryville (17-11 overall) has advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 SCHEELS Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship and face No. 1 seed Quincy Saturday, March 3. The game tips at 2:30 p.m. at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Ill. The finals will take place Sunday, March 4, at 1 p.m. The Saints, the No. 5 seed, defeated UMSL 75-61 in the first round and upset No. 4 seed and 25th-ranked Northern Kentucky 80-70 in the quarterfinals.
ABOUT QUINCY
The Hawks are 21-6 overall, 15-3 in the GLVC and have won 12 straight games. Ali Schwagmeyer leads the team with 17.7 ppg and averages 7.7 rpg, while Linsay Henke adds 14.0 ppg, shoots a GLVC-high 58.9 percent from the field and grabs a conference-best 8.5 rpg. The Hawks lead the GLVC in scoring at 77.5 ppg and give up 66.6 ppg. Quincy leads the GLVC in field goal percentage at 44.9 percent and 3-pointers made at 8.0 per game. QU won the first meeting 66-42 in St. Louis Jan. 28 and the second contest 89-81 in Quincy Feb. 18.

Junior forward Abby Duethman leads the way with 15.1 ppg and 8.4 rpg. She is shooting 48.8 percent from the field and is second on the team with 59 assists. Freshman guard Shelby Miller is second on the roster with 13.2 ppg and has hit 47 3-pointers to go along with 54 steals. Sophomore guard JoAnn Thompson leads the team with 75 assists and 63 steals.

RECAPPING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Shelby Miller scored 34 points to tie the GLVC Tournament record for points in a game as the Saints toppled Northern Kentucky 80-70 in the quarterfinals of the SCHEELS GLVC Tournament Thursday. Miller poured in 26 points in the first half on 9-of-10 shooting, and on the night, sank 11-of-15 shots from the field, 5-of-8 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 at the line. Rita Flynn scored a career-high 15 points, and Abby Duethman grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Freshman Shelby Miller’s 34 points against Northern Kentucky are the fourth-highest single-game total in Maryville history. She is the first Maryville player to score at least 30 points in a contest since Lyndsey Bell tallied 35 against Principia Jan. 23, 2003.

Maryville is shooting 78.9 percent (414-of-525) from the charity stripe to rank second in the country (as of March 2). Shelby Miller leads the GLVC and ranks eighth nationally at 88.6 percent (93-of-105), while Kate Childs is converting at 85.5 percent (47-of-55) at the stripe.

Shelby Miller has set the Maryville record for points by a freshman with 370. In addition, Miller has broken the freshman school record for 3-pointers with 47.
CLIMBING THE CAREER SCORING CHART
Junior Abby Duethman hit a 3-pointer late in the Missouri S&T game to surpass the 1,000-point milestone for her career. She sits in third place on Maryville’s all-time scoring list with 1,086 points. Ahead of her in second place is Maureen Walterbach who tallied 1,162 points.
