Despite Six Runs, Saints Open Florida Trip with Loss to Ashland

Despite pushing across six runs, the Maryville baseball team opened its trip to Florida with a 15-6 loss to Ashland Sunday, March 4.
 
The Saints jumped on the Eagles for two runs in the bottom of the first. Nick Little and Andrew Naegeli walked to start the rally for Maryville. Jared Green singled to bring Little home, and Bob Miller lashed the second RBI single of the inning. The Eagles responded by tying the game in the top of the second and took the lead in the top of the third
 
Ashland stretched its advantage out before the Saints tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Kinyon walked to start the rally, and Miller doubled to deep left center to put runners two runners in scoring position. Mike Wilkinson singled to drive in Kinyon. Miller took third base on the play and later sprinted home on a wild pitch. The Saints tallied single runs in the seventh and eighth. Bryce Bastien plated a run with a fielder’s choice in the seventh. Maryville manufactured a run one inning later when Little walked, stole a base, moved up on a long fly out and scored on a wild pitch. However, the Saints were unable to cause any more damage.
