Fans of the Maryville and Drury baseball teams got to see the final out of three games today at Weber Field. Drury posted a 6-3 win victory in a game that was continued in the top of the sixth inning from due to Saturday’s rain. The Saints took the next game 4-1 as Brett Grempler surrendered just one hit, while the Panthers won the day’s finale 5-3.

The postponed game from Saturday was delayed with two outs in the top of the sixth with the game tied 2-2. Maryville scored single runs in the bottom of the first and third innings yesterday. Drury tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth before the game was postponed due to severe weather in St. Louis. The game resumed and the Saints took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jared Green singles and took second on Kyle Kinyon’s sac bunt. After Corey Gall was hit by a pitch, Mike Wilkinson singled to load the bases. Colby White drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice. However, Drury scored three times in the seventh and added an insurance run in the eighth.

Grempler gave up a single to Drury’s second hitter of the game, but that would prove to be the only hit the Panthers managed the entire game. Maryville used five hits in the bottom of the first to quickly take a 2-0 lead. Nick Little singled to start the inning and scored on Kyle Kinyon’s double to left center. After a walk by Gall and a single by Wilkinson loaded the bases, White delivered an RBI single for a 2-0 lead. Kolby O’Dowd doubled to deep left center to start the second inning, and he took third on a wild pitch. Andrew Naegeli drilled a ball up the middle to hand the Saints a 3-0 lead. Maryville could have stretched its lead but left the bases loaded. In the third, O’Dowd had a single that scored Wilkinson for a 4-0 advantage. Drury scored its lone run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth as Grempler kept the Panthers off balance the entire game.

In the finale, the Panthers took advantage of three errors by the Saints as four of Drury’s five runs were unearned. The Saints gave up single tallies in the first and second before earning one run back in the third. White singled through the right side of the Drury infield and moved into scoring position on Bob Miller’s sac bunt. O’Dowd singled deep by the third base bag, and both Maryville runners advanced when the throw was in the dirt at first base. Drury scored two more runs in the fifth inning and took a 5-1 lead with one tally in the sixth. The Saints mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. Little singles, Naegeli was hit by a pitch and Green lashed a single to right field to load the bases. Kinyon followed with an RBI single to pull Maryville to 5-2. The Saints tallied another run as a bases-loaded double play scored Little for a 5-3 deficit before the comeback stalled there.

The Saints are now 14-30 on the season, 10-21 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers stand at 26-16 overall, 18-11 in the league.
