The Maryville baseball team headed to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst looking to climb up the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings, but the Hawks kept the Saints at bay in a doubleheader 11-4 and 8-3.

Rockhurst quickly flew out to an early lead in game one with seven runs. The Hawks eventually stretched their edge to eight before the Saints tried to put on a late rally. In the seventh, Bryce Bastien and Corey Gall had consecutive singles. After a ground out put them both in scoring position, Aaron Asher drove them both in with a two-run single. In the ninth, Nick Little drove in two runs with a double to score Bastien and Colby White but that would be the end of the Maryville rally as Rockhurst kept the Saints at bay.

The Saints started the second game with two runs in the top of the first. Little and Andrew Naegeli reached to put runners on the corners, and Jared Green drove in the first run as he reached on an error. Later in the frame, Kyle Kinyon hit a sac fly for a 2-0 lead. Rockhurst halved the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Hawks would then score five more runs to stretch their lead to 6-2. The Saints cut into the lead with one run in the top of the sixth, but the three-run deficit was too much to overcome as the Hawks held on for the win.

The Saints are 8-18, 4-12 in the conference, and the Hawks improve to 17-11, 9-7 in the GVLC. The teams will close out the four-game series with two games Saturday.
