Coach Eric Delabar Discusses the Upcoming Season
FOR OPENERS:
Maryville women's soccer begins the 2012 season with two games at the Peacock Classic in Fayette, Iowa. The Saints take on Concordia (Minn.) University Friday, Aug. 31 at 2:30 p.m. Maryville takes on host Upper Iowa in a 4:30 tilt Saturday, Sept. 1.
MORE ON MARYVILLE:
Maryville returns 15 letterwinners from last year's squad which posted a 4-12-1 mark, 4-10-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Saints bolstered the roster with nine newcomers. Leading the attack is
Cydney Robertson who netted a team-high six goals, including three game winners. In the nets, the duo of
Jena Casagrande and
Mandy Browning return after recording nearly 100 combined saves a year ago.
ABOUT CONCORDIA:
Concordia College, which is located in St. Paul, Minn., was 6-10-0 last season, 5-7-0 in the Northern Sun Conference. Amanda Olsen topped the Golden Bears with 12 goals and three assists for 27 points last season. Kayla Kuczaboski played in eight games last season and recorded two wins and a 2.00 GAA.
ABOUT UPPER IOWA:
The Peacocks finished last season with a 9-7-4 mark, including 6-4-3 in the NSIC. Elizabeth Kaluzinski led the team with nine goals and 22 points, while goalie Amanda Smith returns after posting a 1.19 GAA and five wins.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Saints host McKendree in the GLVC opener Friday, Sept. 7, in a 5 p.m. game. The Saints continue GLVC play versus Bellarmine Sunday, Sept. 9, in a noon meeting.
