The third-annual Arch Cup Match between the men’s golf teams from Maryville University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis was held Sunday, Sept. 9, at Aberdeen Golf Club in Eureka, Mo. The Tritons prevailed over the Saints by a score of 28.5 to 10.5. Two UMSL golfers, Colby Yates and David Abolt, tied for the individual championship with a 36-hole total of 5-over par 147.

UMSL jumped off to a fast start in the morning 4-ball matches, winning all four matches which provided a 10-2 lead. Maryville's freshmen duo of Tim Lieser and Drew Ervin was the only Saints pairing to win at least one point in their match. The Triton’s extended their lead in the afternoon singles matches as three of the nine UMSL players won all three points in their matches, and three others won at least two points. Leading the day for the Saints was sophomore Kyler Kearns who won all three points, and junior Nick Lees who won 2.5 out of a possible three points.

The Saints next compete in the Wisconsin-Parkside Fall Invitational Sept. 17-18, at Strawberry Creek GC in Kenosha, Wisc.
