Less than a minute after Kentucky Wesleyan had equalized, Sam Poteet pounded in the game-winning goal to push the Maryville women’s soccer team to a 2-1 triumph at Kentucky Wesleyan Friday evening.
 
After a scoreless first half, Jen Jung collected a ball from Hana McGinis and hammered in a shot to put the Saints on top 1-0 in the 52nd minute. The Panthers put on a charge and finally put a score on the board to tie the game 1-1 at the 67:16 mark on a goal by Paige Kramer. However, the Saints immediately answered with the winner. Abby Juhlin fed Poteet with the ball, and Poteet’s shot was true 48 seconds after Kentucky Wesleyan had scored. Saints keeper Jena Casagrande turned aside seven shots to pick up the win in net.
 
The Saints improve to 2-3 overall, 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers are winless at 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the league. Maryville closes out the road swing with a Sunday game at Southern Indiana.
