Saints and Bearcats Settle for Scoreless Draw

Box Score McKendree boxscore in PDF

Maryville and McKendree battled to a scoreless 0-0 draw in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest Wednesday afternoon. The game was a makeup from Sept. 7 which was called off due to lighting and rain in the St. Louis area. The tie was the first for the Saints since the 2011 season opener against Principia.

The visiting Bearcats nearly scored in the fifth minute when two shots were cleared off the line by Maryville defenders. Midway through the first half, Hana McGinis fired a shot towards the McKendree goal, but Maggie Dudas came up with the save. Maryville keeper Jena Casagrande denied two chances late in the first half as the game was scoreless after 45 minutes.

McKendree had the best scoring opportunity early in the second half, but Casagrande again made the save. In the extra sessions, both teams had golden scoring chances narrowly misfire. Shannon Foley just missed the McKendree net high in the second minute of double overtime, and McGinis had a shot from a sharp angle just miss wide. In the waning moments, McKendree’s Alyssa Patterson took a shot that also narrowly missed the far post.

Casagrande made three saves to keep a clean sheet for the Saints (2-4-1, 1-2-1 GLVC). For McKendree, Dudas turned away three shots for the Bearcats who are now 3-1-1, 2-1-1 on the season. The Saints stay at home and host William Jewell Friday, Sept. 21.
