Rockhurst Moves Past Saints in Three Straight Sets

Box Score Rockhurst boxscore in PDF

Despite 11 kills from Hana Michael, the Maryville volleyball squad fell in three straight sets 25-21, 25-14, 25-15 at Rockhurst. The combination of strong hitting and blocking by the Hawks did the Saints in Saturday afternoon.

The Saints had their best performance of the match in set one as they rallied from a 21-14 deficit. The freshman Michael had two straight kills during a 5-0 run, and a block by Samantha Callahan and Laura Welling drew the Saints to 21-19. However, that was as close as Maryville would get as the Hawks held on.

In set two, Rockhurst scored six straight points to pull away from a narrow 10-9 lead. Set three was close and back-to-back kills by Demi Maniaci and Julia Greaves gave the Saints a 9-8 lead. Later, Greaves finished another rally for a 10-9 Maryville margin. Rockhurst responded with a 6-0 burst to close out the match.

Michael completed a double-double as she added 13 digs to her 11 kills. Taryn Trubich also recorded a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs. Hannah Seitter handled a team-high 14 digs. Rockhurst recorded a .362 hitting percentage to key the win.

The Saints return home Friday, Sept. 28, when they host Drury for a 5 p.m. match at Moloney Arena.
