Jena Casagrande, the reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, registered her third straight shutout but the Maryville women’s soccer team was forced to settle for a 0-0 double overtime tie at Drury Friday afternoon. The contest is the fourth straight overtime session the Saints have played.
Cydney Robertson had an early chance for the Saints, but Drury keeper Kelsey Vaught came up with the save. Midway through the first half, Casagrande denied a Panthers scoring chance as the game moved to halftime. In the later stages of the second half, the Saints launched three shots on the Drury goal but the attempts were saved. Drury tested the Maryville keeper again but the game moved into extra sessions. Neither team had a great scoring chance in the first OT, but Drury put two shots on goal. Casagrande kept the sheet clean as the contest ended after 110 minutes in a scoreless draw.
Casagrande, who has not surrendered a goal in 352 minutes, finished with four saves.
Hana McGinis led the Saints with three shots as Maryville totaled nine in the game, including five on goal. The Saints are now 2-5-3 overall, 1-3-3 in the GLVC. Drury is now 5-3-1, 3-3-1 in conference.
