The Maryville volleyball squad dropped its opening two matches at the New Victorian Inn and Suites/Runza Fall Classic hosted by the University of Nebraksa-Kearney. The Saints fell to No. 2 host UNK 25-9, 25-14, 25-14 and Truman State 25-11, 25-16, 25-18.
The second-ranked Lopers proved worthy of their lofty national ranking as they hit a sparkling .330 in the contest.
Hana Michael led the Saints defense with 14 digs, while
Mikaela Lahm recorded four blocks.
Megan Baumgartner contributed in many statistical categories as she has nine assists, four digs, three blocks and two kills.
Against Truman State,
Demi Maniaci notched seven kills while hitting .312 but the Saints still dropped their second straight in the tourney. Michael again led the defense with 10 digs, and Baumgartner finished with 15 assists.
Maryville closes out the tournament Saturday with matchups against St. Cloud State and Northern State.
