The Maryville volleyball closed out the 2013 Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Malone Saturday afternoon in Aurora, Ill. The Saints posted a 2-1 record at the tourney.
 
Leading set one 8-6, Maryville scored three straight points to surge ahead. After a Malone error, Taryn Trubich and Grace Balcerak recorded back-to-back kills. After a Malone score, the Saints tacked on another 3-0 run to take control of the set. Malone got as close as four points but Maryville scored the final three points.
 
With the score tied at 5-5 in set two, Malone had a hitting error and two straight service aces by Trubich built an 8-5 lead. Maryville then embarked on a 4-0 burst. Jordan McKinley started the run with a kill, and a Hana Michael ace ended the run. The Saints put the set away later with a 5-0 outburst to build an 18-9 lead and cruised from there.
 
The Saints closed out the match in set three with six consecutive points to turn a 9-7 lead into a 15-7 edge. Julia Greaves started the run with a kill, and Trubich had an ace and a kill. After a Malone timeout, the Saints had two straight blocks and another Malone hitting error put the set away. The Saints lead grew to double digits as Maryville closed out the match.
 
Mikaela Lahm had eight kills, while Laura Welling added seven kills while hitting .312. Michael paced the defense with 14 digs, and Balcerak finished with five blocks.
 
The Saints improve to 8-18, while Malone drops to 9-13.
