Maryville ventured to Kirksville, Mo., to take on No. 18 ranked Truman State, and the TSU proved worthy of its national ranking as the Saints fell 25-19, 25-7, 25-21. The Saints take a break from Great Lakes Valley Conference as it takes on Webster Tuesday evening in their next action.

Truman took an early 5-1 lead to open the match before the Saints scored three straight points. After a TSU error,
Ali Lampen served an ace, and
Mikaela Lahm recorded a kill as Maryville drew to 5-4. Truman pushed its edge back to 16-9 but the Saints scored four of the next five points.
Julia Greaves notched a kill, and she teamed with
Grace Balcerak on a block. After TSU scored one point, Balcerak and
Laura Welling notched back-to-back kills. Truman answered with three straight and held on to win the set.

Maryville trailed 3-2 in set two but responded with three straight points, and four of the next five to surge ahead. A TSU miscue started the run, and a
Taryn Trubich service ace pushed the Saints ahead. Balcerak tacked on a kill for a 5-3 Saints edge. After TSU had one kill, Greaves answered with her kill for a 6-4 lead. Truman scored five straight points to retake the advantage and eventually took a 2-0 lead.

The Saints battled in set three and found themselves down 16-12. Balcerak's kill was the first of three straight Maryville points, though. Greaves and Balcerak had another block, and a kill by Greaves drew the Saints to 16-15. TSU scored to take a 17-15 lead, but the Saints tied the set after a Balcerak kill and a Truman hitting error. TSU answered with five straight points and held off the Saints to close the match.

Lahm topped Maryville (6-11 overall, 1-6 GLVC) with eight kills, and Lampen registered 12 digs. Balcerak led the defensive efforts with three blocks. Allie Brak led Truman State (11-5, 5-1) with 12 kills.
