The Maryville volleyball team had never defeated a nationally ranked team. Until Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. The Saints knocked off #23 Truman State 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 26-24, 25-23) to end a 0-16 streak versus ranked squads. Mikaela Lahm had 12 kills, including the match winner in the fourth set, while Ali Lampen had 44 digs, the second most in program history to lead the Saints to the upset victory.

In the fourth and final set, the Saints jumped on top with the first four points. After a Truman hitting error, Lahm had a kill. After Laura Welling finished off a kill, Hannah Seitter served up an ace for the quick lead. Truman forged a tie at 5-5 but the Saints scored the next three points to retake the edge. Maryville kept the lead at 12-10 until Truman edged in front for its only lead in the set.

The Saints answered with four straight points to take a lead it would not surrender. Welling had a kill to tie the set, and a block by the duo of Lahm and Demi Maniaci put the Saints ahead 14-13. After a Truman miscue, another kill by Lahm gave Maryville a 16-13 lead. Truman cut the deficit to 19-17 but two points gave the Saints some breathing room at 21-17. Maryville was up 23-20 before Truman trimmed the deficit to just one at 23-22. Maniaci swung out wide and terminated on a crosscourt shot to push the Saints to match point 24-22. Truman State saved one on a block, but Lahm dropped in a shot on the first touch to close out the victory for the Saints.

Lahm hit .281 to go along with her 12 kills, had five blocks and also served three aces. Grace Balcerak hit .444 and tied her career high with 10 kills. Maniaci hit .318 and finished with nine kills. Lampen's 44 digs are just two less than the school record of 46. Allie Brak was sensational for Truman State (20-10 overall, 13-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) with 28 kills and 20 digs.

The Saints improve to 9-23 overall, 2-15 in the GLVC. Maryville closes out the season Saturday versus Quincy on Senior Day in a 3 p.m. match. Seniors Demi Maniaci, Julia Greaves and Mikaela Lahm will be recognized prior to the match.
