Shelby Miller hit five of seven shots from 3-point range en route to 20 points as the Maryville women’s basketball team downed Rockhurst 67-51 Thursday evening in Moloney Arena. The game was the Saints annual “Think Pink” contest and the team donned pink jerseys for the occasion.

The Saints were up 9-7 before tallying seven straight points. Miller hit one free throw, and Abby Duethman converted a layup. Erica Lorton grabbed an offensive rebound for a put back, and Kayla Person’s jumper built a 16-7 lead. Rockhurst cut the margin to four, but the Saints went on a quick 7-2 burst to take a 25-16 lead. Kate Childs hit two free throws as Maryville took a 33-22 lead after the first half.

The Hawks made a run early in the second half and trimmed the gap to 39-35 but Miller answered with back-to-back 3-pointers to steady the Saints and restore a double-digit lead at 45-35 with 12 minutes to play. Rockhurst trimmed the margin to nine, but Maryville responded with another flurry of treys. Brittany Fish knocked down a shot from behind the arc, and Miller drained her third three in just over three minutes for a 53-38 advantage.

Rockhurst made one more charge but the Saints again had the answer. Fish drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key, and Miller hit two free throws. After the Hawks scored, Fish converted yet another trey for a 61-46 cushion. The Saints closed out the win by scoring the final six points of the game.

Miller led the Saints with 20 points and finished the game hitting 6-of-10 shots from the field. Brittnye McSparron added 14 points, and Lorton snared a team-high eight rebounds. Kara McFarland led Rockhurst (7-15, 4-10) with 18 points. The Saints defense held the Hawks to just 30.5 percent shooting (18-of-59) from the field. The Saints improve to 14-8 overall, 10-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Maryville returns to play Saturday at 1 p.m. as it hosts William Jewell.
