The Maryville baseball team closed out its three-game swing in Alabama Thursday as Montevallo posted an 11-1 win over the Saints. The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the first for all the offense they would need on the day.
Jared Green singled with one out in the top of the first but was unable to move into scoring position. Montevallo had two doubles and a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. The Saints nearly jumped on the scoreboard in the second when
Nick Little reached on a fielder’s choice and took second on a passed ball. However, he was stranded in scoring position as the Saints could not drive him home. After the Saints kept the Falcons off the scoreboard for the next three innings, Montevallo put up runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to pull away.
The Saints tallied their lone run of the game in the ninth.
Colby White singled to start the inning, and he dashed to third on
Matt Burton’s single up the middle. White came around to score on #Kolby O’Dowd#’s RBI grounder.
Maryville is next in action Wednesday, March 13, as it hosts Truman State in the home opener at Weber Field. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
