Saints Score Season-High 12 Runs Against Rockhurst

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
The Maryville baseball team recorded a season high for runs in a 12-2 victory over visiting Rockhurst Saturday. The Hawks turned the tables and notched an identical 12-2 win to earn a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader split.

In the first game, the Saints put up crooked numbers in the first three innings and glided to its largest winning margin of the season. After the Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Mike Wilkinson’s sac fly tied the score. Jared Green singled to put the Saints ahead 2-1. Rockhurst tied the score at 2-2 but Maryville responded with four runs in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Eric Keling singled and a Rockhurst error cleared the bases for a 5-2 Saints advantage. Wilkinson struck for another RBI to push the Saints ahead 6-2. In the bottom of the third, Nick Little had the big hit as he drove in two runs with a single. Aided by five straight walks, the Saints pushed across three more runs without a hit as the margin grew to 11-2. In the seventh inning, Maryville ended the game via run rule when Aaron Asher lifted a sac fly to score Little with the final run of the game. Patrick Jacobs surrendered only one earned run and again went the distance to record his fifth win of the season.

Rockhurst tallied the first run of the second meeting before the Saints tied the game in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Green was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run. Maryville went ahead in the second when Bob Miller singled and took second on a sac bunt by Kyle Kinyon. Little punched an RBI single to push the Saints ahead 2-1. However, the Hawks scored three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to effectively take control of the game. The Saints were held to just four hits and hurt themselves with three errors.

Maryville is now 12-14 overall, 11-7 in the GLVC. The Hawks stand at 15-13, 10-10 in the league. The teams close out a four-game series with two games Sunday.
