Naegeli Hits Walk-Off Winner in Tenth Versus Saint Joseph's

Box Score Pinch hitter Andrew Naegeli delivered an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the tenth inning as Maryville walked off with a 3-2 victory over Saint Joseph’s Saturday afternoon in an elimination game at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Tournament at Bosse Field in Evansville, Ind. The Saints survive to take on Drury in a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Corey Gall began the inning with a sharp single up the middle that glanced off the glove of SJC pitcher Brett Maus. Kyle Kinyon put down a perfect sac bunt to move Gall into scoring position. Naegeli was called off the bench, and he slashed a single to short left field as Gall sprinted home. The Saints bench erupted and ran onto the field as the Saints improved to 4-0 in extra inning games this season.

The Saints had to rally after the Pumas pushed across two runs in the top of the first inning aided by a bloop double that got lost in the bright sun.  In the fourth inning, Kaleb Depew led off with a single, and Eric Keling doubled to put two Saints in scoring position. Maryville pulled off a double steal, and on the play, the Pumas committed a throwing error to allow Keling to score the tying run. Both pitching staffs took over and did not allow another run. Saints starter Tyler Omlid went six innings, and Scott Pennington came on and did not allow a hit in three innings of work. Shane Herschelman worked the top of the tenth inning allowing the Saints to stage the thrilling rally to pick up the win.
