The Maryville women's soccer team dropped its home opener 2-0 as visiting Quincy tallied early in each half to spoil the first game at Maryville Soccer Field this season.

The Hawks struck at the 8:14 mark when they worked the ball up the right side of the field. Jaclyn Mastroianni crossed the ball into the middle and Taylor Wakeland volleyed the ball in for the only goal Quincy would need. The Saints nearly equalized off a corner kick as Amanda Wiechens tested QU keeper Jodi Chapie. A few minutes later, Danielle Schmitz put a shot toward the Quincy goal but the low shot just flew wide.

In the 51st minute of play, the Hawks pushed its lead to 2-0 when Maddy Kuhlenberg had a free kick and lofted the ball to Ashley Burton who headed in the pass. Shannon Foley nearly pulled one back for the Saints when her run to the left post tested Chapie who made the save to keep Maryville scoreless. The Saints kept up the pressure in the final 10 minutes. Foley again narrowly missed wide, and Wiechens rang a shot off the crossbar in the 82nd minute. However, the Hawks kept the Saints at bay to improve to 3-0-1 overall, 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Saints fall to 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the league. Maryville is back in action Friday when Indianapolis comes to town.
