After a scoreless first half in the season opener, the Maryville women's soccer team and Upper Iowa broke loose for six goals, but the homestanding Peacocks emerged with a 4-2 victory in Fayette, Iowa.

Mandy Browning was outstanding in the nets in the first 45 minutes as she came up with five saves to keep Upper Iowa off the scoreboard as the game was tied at 0-0 at halftime. In the first minute of the second half, UIU tested Browning again but she denied the attempt. The Saints had their best scoring chance when
Amanda Wiechens blasted a shot on goal, but Madie Edwards made the save for Upper Iowa.

The Peacocks earned a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and Amanda Millard converted from the spot for a 1-0 lead. The Saints drew level in the 63rd minute of play after scramble after a corner kick.
Moe Alwert had a header attempt blocked, but Wiechens headed in the rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

Less than two minutes later, Upper Iowa retook the lead on an Aimee Wronski score. UIU pushed up its edge with goals in the 71st and 82nd minute of play. The Saints edged closer when Wiechens picked up her second tally of the game on an assist from Shannon Foley at the 85:17 mark. Maryville was unable to close the gap any further as the Peacocks eased to the win. Browning made 10 saves in the game for the Saints.

Maryville is back in action Friday in the Peacock Classic as it takes on St. Cloud State in a 12:30 game.
