In the final day of the 2013 Maryville Classic volleyball tournament, the Saints gained a measure of revenge by downing Bemidji State 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22). Friday night, BSU edged Maryville in five sets. With the crown on the line, a hot-hitting Missouri Baptist squad beat the Saints in three straight (25-20, 25-17, 25-10) to win the tournament.

Against Bemidji State,
Laura Welling pounded down 17 kills and hit .323 to pace the Saints attack.
Demi Maniaci recorded 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage, and
Grace Balcerak added 10 kills and hit .304.
Ali Lampen recorded 30 digs, the most by a Saints player since
Jamie Kloss had 32 digs Oct. 12, 2012, against Walsh.
Hana Michael added 20 digs, while
Taryn Trubich and
Hannah Seitter had 23 and 22 assists, respectively. The Saints hit .226 in the contest and came up with 82 digs.

In the final match of the tournament, the Saints were topped by a Missouri Baptist team that hit .374 in the match. Michael led Maryville with seven kills and added three blocks, while Lampen paced the defensive efforts with 10 digs. The Spartans, who are ranked No. 17 nationally in the NAIA, put three hitters in double figures for kills. Maddy Hammack led MBU with 12 kills, while Taylor Cook finished with 10 kills and 10 digs as the Spartans won all three matches during the tourney.
The All-Tournament team consisted of Karrah Toby (SAU) Hannah Carey (MBU), Hana Michael (Maryville), Madeline Nesbit (MBU), Amanda Tronick (BSU), Courtney Volkmann (BSU).

Maryville (2-2) is back in action Tuesday as it heads over to Missouri Baptist (8-1) for a 6 p.m. contest.
