Shelby Miller recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds as Maryville held off Missouri S&T for a 51-48 victory in Rolla, Mo., Thursday evening. Alex Hillyer led the Saints with 18 points, while Erica Lorton yanked down 11 rebounds.

Trailing 10-7, the Saints tied the game on a Samantha Robison 3-pointer and took the lead on a Rita Flynn bucket. After another hoop by Flynn, Miller added a layup to close out the 9-0 run for a 16-10 Saints edge. After a Lady Miners score ended the run, the Saints used another 7-0 to build a 23-12 lead capped by a Hillyer three-point play. Miller and Hillyer teamed up for Maryville's next seven points as they stretched the lead to 32-16 before settling for a 32-18 lead at the break.

Flynn scored the first basket of the second half as the Saints continued to hold the upper hand. Hillyer hit two free throws with 12 minutes left to play as the Saints established their biggest lead at 42-25. However, Maryville's offense stalled over the next four minutes and allowed Missouri S&T to get back into the game. The Lady Miners scored 15 straight points to close to 42-40 before Hillyer hit two free throws to push the Maryville lead to 44-40. Later, Hillyer made two more at the stripe, and a Miller layup pushed the lead out to 48-42 with 4:31 to play.

Missouri S&T got to within one point with just under two minutes to play, but Jordynn Martin scored for a 51-48 lead with 1:43 to go. The Saints missed free throws in the final minute that would have sealed the win and escaped with the win when a final 3-point attempt by Missouri S&T missed the mark.

Miller, who last season made a layup at the buzzer to beat the Lady Miners, again was a big factor for the Saints. Her double-double is the second by a Saints women's player this season, after one by Alex Wolf. Hillyer hit 12-of-13 free throws en route to her team-high 18 points. Lorton dominated the defensive glass with nine of her total 11 rebounds coming after Missouri S&T misses.  Mia Wesley led the Lady Miners (6-10, 2-6 GLVC) with 16 points.

The Saints improve to 10-7 overall, 3-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Maryville stays on the road and plays at No. 9 Drury Saturday, Jan. 25, in a 1 p.m. game in Springfield, Mo.
