#13 UW-Parkside Edges Saints 2-0

Maryland Heights, Mo. - Due to excessive rain on the Maryville home pitch, the Saints hosted unbeaten and No. 13 ranked Wisconsin-Parkside on the turf fields at Lou Fusz Soccer Fields on a cold and rainy Friday afternoon. The visiting Rangers used two second-half scores to slip past the Saints 2-0.

The Saints nearly took the early lead when Amanda Wiechens sprung free but her shot was stopped by UWP goalie Mallory Geurts. The Rangers then had their best chance of the half when Tay Schiffer-Jander had a shot that was stopped by Maryville keeper Bailey Doerflinger. At the half, the Saints had battled the nationally-ranked Rangers to a scoreless draw.

In the 54th minute, the Rangers finally broke through. Schiffer-Jander placed a perfect cross into the box, and Kelsey Armour ran onto it and tapped the ball in for the game's first goal. The Saints nearly drew level when Danielle Schmitz hit the crossbar, and her follow up just missed high midway through the second half. The Saints pressed for the tie but the Rangers instead strung together two passes that led to a Schiffer-Jander goal in the 83rd minute of play to seal the win.

The Saints slip to 3-5-3 overall, 2-5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rangers stay undefeated and are 9-0-2 overall, 7-0-2 in the league. Maryville is back in action Sunday as it hosts Lewis in a Noon start.
