Aurora, Ill. - The Maryville volleyball team made it a perfect 3-0 trip to the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover as the Saints defeated Wayne State in another five-set match in Aurora, Ill. The Saints rallied to take a thriller 21-25, 30-28, 22-25, 26-24, 15-12 for their fourth straight win. The victory is the 13th on the season for the Saints and the most since the 2000 team won 14 matches.

Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth set, the Saints grabbed the early lead with five straight points to take an 8-3 cushion. Maryville still held a 10-7 edge before seemingly taking a comfortable 14-7 margin.
Maddie Timmermann began the run with a kill, and
Ashley Selman and
Jordan McKinley had a block. McKinley followed with a kill, and a WSU error handed the Saints a seven-point edge. Wayne State slowly crept back into the set and twice scored three straight points. The score was tied at 24-24 before the Saints scored the last two points.
Grace Balcerak had a kill, and
Hana Michael's service ace forced the decisive fifth set.

The Saints were down 8-7 before reeling off four straight points. A ball handling error tied the set at 8-all, and
Hannah Seitter placed a kill as the Saints surged ahead 9-8. Timmermann and McKinley had a block, and a WSU hitting error put Maryville ahead 11-8. Wayne State answered with three straight points to forge an 11-11 deadlock. The set was still tied at 12 apiece before the Saints closed with a flurry. Selman pounded down a kill, and a WSU ball handling error pushed Maryville to match point. The Saints cashed in when Balcerak finished off a play as Maryville won its second straight five-set match.

Selman led the Saints with 12 kills, hit .333 and swatted eight blocks. Balcerak added 11 kills and four blocks, while
Laura Welling finished with 10 kills.
Taryn Trubich handed out a season-high 33 assists, and
Ali Lampen led four Saints in double-figure digs with 17. Emily Norscia led Wayne State (6-12) with 24 kills.

The Saints (13-8) play another non-conference match Tuesday, Oct. 21, as they travel to Oakland City.
