Rensselaer, Ind. - In a battle of teams on winning streaks, the Maryville volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end as Saint Joseph's won its fifth straight in a marathon five-set match. The Saints saw their rally fall short as the Pumas escaped 25-16, 25-21, 11-25, 19-25, 15-10. Maryville had won its last two matches that had gone the distance.
After hitting less than .125 in the first two sets, the Saints soared to a .440 hitting percentage in the third set and a .423 mark in the fourth. Maryville had a combined 25 kills and just three errors over the two sets.
Maddie Timmermann hit a sizzling .609 and recorded 15 kills on just 23 swings. The freshman added five blocks to go along with four digs and three assists.
Hana Michael finished with 11 kills, eight digs and four blocks, and
Laura Welling finished with 10 kills and seven digs.
Hannah Seitter distributed 21 assists, while
Ali Lampen topped the defense with 20 digs.
The Saints slip to 14-9 overall, 5-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Pumas up their record to 9-13 overall, 3-9 in the league. Maryville stays in the Hoosier State and play at Indianapolis Sunday.
