Kos Curls in Winner as Saints Down Truman on Senior Day

St. Louis - On Senior Day, senior Zach Kos curled in a long shot that hit the left post and bounced in to provide the Maryville men's soccer team with a 1-0 win over Truman State in the home finale for the Saints. Kos picked an ideal time to tally his first goal of the season as Saints improved to 5-8-4 overall, 4-8-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Their win total is the most since moving up to Division II.

Neither team generated much of an attack until Lance Kohler put a shot on goal that TSU keeper Drew Garrone gathered in for a save. Nick Doherty had a late opportunity but his shot was also stopped. The Bulldogs did not have a shot on goal as the game was scoreless through the first half.

Truman State earned two early corners in the second half that led to a shot that Saints keeper CJ Hendricks collected. The Bulldogs again mounted pressure and had consecutive shots that Hendricks rejected. In the 68th minute, Kos struck for the winner. The Saints played the ball up the left wing, and Kos gathered it in. He dribbled the ball, spun then launched a long curling shot. Kos' attempt hit the left post and spun into the net for the thrilling and eventual game-winning goal. Truman (5-10-1 overall, 4-9-1 GLVC) had two shots to try and pull level but Hendricks made one save and the other shot missed wide. Hendricks made five saves to post a clean sheet for Maryville.

The Saints play their regular season finale Wednesday in the St. Louis derby as they head over to take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis in a 4 p.m. start at Don Dallas Field.
