Springfield, Mo. - Both Maryville and Drury each scored once in the waning minutes of a half as the teams settled for a 1-1 draw in Springfield, Mo., Friday night.
Katy Rood tallied just 16 seconds before halftime to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The score looked like it might hold up until the Panthers tallied with seven minutes to play.
In the final minute of the first half, the Panthers were whistled for a foul about 20-yards out from the DU goal. Rood stepped up and rifled a shot just underneath the crossbar for her fourth goal of the season. The Panthers carried the early portion of the game and made Maryville keeper Baily Doerflinger come up with two saves to keep the game scoreless. Drury had an excellent opportunity but a shot by Emily Cline hit the post in the 39th minute.
Dani Schmitz put a shot on goal that nearly doubled the Saints lead but her attempt was stopped. Drury looked for the equalizer but Doerflinger kept the home side off the scoreboard. However, the Panthers finally broke through in the 83rd minute. Ciara O'Brien found the back of the Saints net after a cross to tie the game 1-1. Drury nearly won the game in regulation when Paige Westbrook hit the post with just over a minute to play as the contest moved into overtime.
The teams traded shots on goal midway through the first OT session but the goalies made sure the game went to a second overtime session.
Shannon Foley had Maryville's best chance late but her shot was saved. Doerflinger came up with nine saves as the Saints earned another draw.
The Saints are now 3-3-3 overall, 2-3-3 in the GLVC. The Panthers stand at 4-2-3 overall 2-2-3 in the league. Maryville stays on the road and plays at Missouri S&T Sunday afternoon.
