Minnesota State boxscore in PDFMinnesota State's Lexie Ulfers scored on a layup with 5.3 seconds left to help the Mavericks rally for a 69-68 over Maryville women's basketball team Friday night at UMSL's Mark Twain Building. Both teams overcame double-digit deficits in a back-and-forth thriller.

Down 41-26 at halftime, the Saints scored the first 10 points of the second half to trim the deficit to just five.
Shelby Miller drained a 3-pointer from the left corner, and
Ali Ringering followed with a layup. After
Alex Wolf grabbed an offensive rebound and went up for a hoop,
Jordynn Martin drilled a 3-pointer with 17:47 left in the game. MSU finally ended the Maryville run with a three-point play. Ringering and Wolf scored back-to-back baskets as the Saints closed to 44-40.

Down 46-40 with 13:29 to play, the Saints embarked on a 16-0 run to surge ahead. Ringering rattled in a long 3-pointer to ignite the run. Martin sank a wing 3-pointer to tie the game, and Miller's breakaway layup put the Saints ahead 48-46 with 11:37 to play.
Carly Frala and Hillyer scored on back-to-back possessions as the Saints surged on top 52-46. After another basket by Hiller, Miller splashed a jumper at the elbow for a 56-46 lead with just under eight minutes to play. The Saints maintained the edge and went up by 11 on a Hillyer layup at the 3:42 mark and were still leading 67-57 after two Martin free throws. However, the Mavericks scored 10 of the last 11 points of the game to roar back ahead. After Ufler's late basket, the Saints had a shot at the buzzer that just misfired long.

Martin led four Saints in double figures with 15 points and hauled down eight boards. Hillyer and Ringering finished with matching lines of 14 points and eight rebounds, while Miller added 11 points. Ulfers led the Mavericks (3-0) with 16 points.

The Saints suffer their first loss of the season and are 1-1. Maryville finishes up the tourney Saturday as it takes on Lincoln at 1 pm.
