Baseball Records 11 Hits in Dropping Weather-Delayed Opener

Box Score In the weather delayed season opener, the Maryville baseball team was roughed up by Trevecca Nazarene 17-5. The game started Friday, was halted after seven innings and concluded early Saturday morning.

The host Trojans jumped the Saints for four runs in the bottom of the first on five hits. The Saints answered with three runs in the top of the second. Mitch Carriger singled to open the inning and took second when Nick Stading was hit by a pitch. The duo moved up a base on a balk, and Nate Steffler singled in the first run. Kyle Kinyon later followed with his own RBI single to pull the Saints to 4-2. Kaleb Depew had Maryville's third single to drive in a run as the Saints drew to 4-3.

However, TNU put up crooked numbers in the fourth and sixth innings to pad its lead. The Saints pulled two runs back in the top of the seventh. After Brad Ridings walked, Corey Gall doubled to right to put two runners in scoring position. Mike Wilkinson singled in one run, and Sean Murphy came off the bench to plate Maryville's fourth run of the game. The Saints recorded 11 hits in the game
