Box Score St. Louis - Illinois Springfield's Logan Frye blooped in a single in the top of the 10th inning to score the game-winning runs as Maryville dropped a 10-7 decision to the visiting Prairie Stars in a nonconference game at a chilly Weber Field Wednesday evening.
Â
The Saints took the lead in the first when Nate Stading walked with the bases loaded to force in the game's first run.
Sean Murphy added a second run with an RBI grounder for a 2-0 lead. Maryville padded its lead with a double steal as
Garrett Jones swiped home on the back end of the double thefts. The Prairie Stars scored two in the top of the fourth but the Saints answered with three in the fifth. Murphy hit a sharp single to right for his second RBI of the game, and
Nate Steffler had a sac bunt that scored another run.
Kaleb Depew singled through the left side of the UIS defense for a 6-2 Saints edge. UIS scored twice in the seventh to cut the gap to two but the Saints added an insurance run in the seventh.
Kyle Kinyon hit a deep sac fly to center and Murphy sprinted home with as Maryville went up 7-4.
Â
However, UIS took advantage of a Maryville defensive miscue and had two hits to push across the game-tying runs. The Saints nearly scored in the bottom of the eighth as they put two runners in scoring position but were unable to edge back ahead. In the first extra inning, UIS strung together four hits and capitalized on another Saints error. Frye, who took over on the mound for UIS, dropped in the hit that would make him the winner. The Saints got the potential tying run to the plate after their first two batters were hit by a pitch but UIS kept Maryville from scoring to cap the comeback. Murphy paced the Saints attack with four hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.

The Saints are now 4-8 on the season, while Illinois Springfield ups its mark to 8-5.
