Women's Basketball Faces Indianapolis in 2014 Deaconess GLVC Tournament Semis
GLVC SEMIFINALS
The Saints (19-11) have advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament and take on No. 4 seed Indianapolis at Noon Saturday, March 8 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. The No. 8 Saints upset top-seed Drury 56-55 in the quarterfinals on Samantha Robison's runner with 2.6 seconds left. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday, March 9.

The No. 8 Saints upset top-seed Drury 56-55 in the Deaconess GLVC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday on Samantha Robison's runner with 2.6 seconds left. Robison and Miller led the Saints with 11 points apiece. Robison narrowly missed a double-double as she also tied her season high with nine rebounds.
ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS
The Greyhounds are the No. 4 seed and are 23-7 after defeating No. 5 Missouri-St. Louis 78-74 in the quarterfinals. Princess German averages 10.7 ppg, while Kelly Walter adds 10.6 ppg. Kirsten Gliesmann tops the team in rebounding at 6.7 per outing. UIndy won the first game 73-57 Feb. 6 in St. Louis.
MORE ON MARYVILLE
Shelby Miller leads the team in scoring at 15.7 ppg, ninth in the GLVC, and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 rpg. In addition, she tops the team in assists with 94 and steals with 58. Coming off the bench, Alex Hillyer adds 12.4 ppg and chips in 4.9 rpg. Rita Flynn is seventh in the GLVC in field goal percentage at .536.
ALL-TIME IN THE GLVC TOURNAMENT
With wins over Bellarmine and Drury this tourney, the Saints have improved their all-time record in the GLVC Tournament to 8-1. In 2012, Maryville went 4-0 to win its first GLVC title. Last year, the Saints stormed to the title game with two wins before falling to top-seed Lewis.
ONE-POINT WINS IN THE GLVC TOURNEY
In the two seasons the GLVC Tournament has been held at the Ford Center, Maryville has won three games, each by one point. The Saints beat William Jewell 62-61 in the 2013 quarterfinals then defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 63-62 in the 2013 semifinals. In the 2014 quarterfinals Thursday, Marvyille edged Drury 56-55.
SECOND TIME AROUND
The Saints are 4-1 in "rematch" games this season. Maryville lost to Quincy, Truman State, Bellarmine and Drury the first time the teams played but won the subsequent rematch. Only UMSL won both the first and second game this year.
RANK AND FILE
No. 6 Drury was the highest ranked opponent Maryville has ever defeated. The previous mark was No. 9 Kean University Dec. 29, 2008, while the Saints were members of Division III. The highest ranked DII team Maryville previously had beaten was at #10 Quincy Feb. 22, 2014.
