St. Louis - Behind a seven-strikeout outing by starter
Robbie Gordon, the Maryville baseball team won game one 6-4 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday afternoon. In the second game, Triton pitcher Alan Franck allowed just one hit to the Saints as UMSL posted a 7-1 win.

The Saints pushed across a run in the top of the first when
Kaleb Depew reached on a error, and
Eric Keling drove him home with a double to right center. The Tritons tied the game in the home half of the first, and took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. The Saints finally broke through when they sent 10 batters to the plate.

Nate Steffler started the inning with a single and took second on an UMSL error. Depew lashed a single to bring the Saints to 3-2. The Saints later loaded the bases, and
Tyler Omlid walked to force home the tying run.
Mitch Carriger then drilled a single right back up the middle to bring in two runners for a 5-3 Saints lead. In the seventh, the Saints tacked on an insurance run.
Kyle Kinyon walked and took second on an UMSL fielding miscure. Depew delivered another RBI hit as his single handed Maryville a 6-3 cushion. After 7-2/3 innings from Gordon, reliever
Scott Pennington came on and ended the eighth with a strikeout on three pitches.

In the ninth inning, the Tritons loaded the bases with one out. UMSL's Paul Richmond hit a ball right over third base that appeared to be en route to clearing the bases, but
Corey Gall grabbed the ball and tagged third to limit the damage to just one run. Pennington ended the game as he got a pop up in foul territory.

The big inning was the downfall for the Saints as the Tritons scored three runs in the first and never looked back. UMSL started the game by converting three walks into three runs as the Tritons sent eight batters to plate in the bottom of the first. Dan Seddon and Dylan Fieth each walked to begin the frame and then after Paul Richmond laid down a bunt single to load the bases, Mike Budka draw a walk to score UMSL's first run. After Cory Garlington hit into a fielder's choice to score Feith, Chris Mathes hit a sacrifice fly to Saint's right fielder Kaleb DePew to plate Richmond to give the Triton's the early 3-0 lead.

The Saints would bounce back in the second as
Eric Keling would get the only hit of the game for Maryville with one out and would advance to third on a throwing error by Tritons pitcher Alan Frank on an attempted pick-off play. Carriger lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Keling to cut UMSL's lead to 3-1.

The Tritons came right back in the home half of the second by taking advantage of two base on balls as Phil Landwehr and Seddon both walked and scored on a pair of throwing errors by the Saints after a Budka single to take a 5-to-1 lead. UMSL added insurance runs in the sixth with three extra base hits. Frank earned his second win of the year with the one-hit, three-strikeout performance to push UMSL to 10-10, 8-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Saints, who are now 12-12 overall, 8-6, hit the road this coming Saturday and Sunday as they travel to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst in a four-game set. Game one on Saturday starts at Noon.
