Baseball Tripped up at Harris-Stowe

Box Score St. Louis - The Maryville baseball team voyaged to Midtown St. Louis to face Harris-Stowe State University, but the Saints were tripped up 4-3 by the Hornets in a nonconference contest.

The Saints took the lead in the second when Ryan March singled to leadoff. Corey Gall followed with a base hit, and after a sac bunt, Nick Stading drew a walk to load the bases. Brad Ridings lifted a sac fly to right to bring in the first run of the game. The Hornets responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Maryville came right back in the top of the third with a two-spot of its own. Troy Payton was hit by a pitch, and Mitch Carriger worked a walk. March singled for the second straight inning, and Payton scored on a Harris-Stowe error. Gall drove in a run with a sac fly to deep right to score Carriger as the Saints went up 3-2. However, the Hornets used a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly in the sixth to inch back ahead 4-3. The Saints looked for the game-tying tally but were unable to get a runner aboard as their offense was held to just four hits.

The Saints are 15-24 on the season and are back in action at home Wednesday, April 23, when Lindenwood visits Weber Field for a 6 p.m. contest.
