Box Score St. Louis - After giving up two unearned runs in the top of the first, the Maryville baseball team roared back to down Lindenwood 6-3 Wednesday evening at Weber Field. Freshman
Kyle Uhrich picked up the victory as five Saints pitchers kept the Lion attack in check after the first inning.
The Saints responded with two of their own runs in the bottom of the first.
Sean Murphy doubled in
Andrew Naegeli to get Maryville on the scoreboard, and
Corey Gall's sac fly scored
Mitch Carriger for a 2-2 tie. Murphy and Gall had back-to-back singles in the third to start another threat.
Eric Keling doubled down the line in right to score Murphy as the Saints went ahead 3-2.
In the fifth, the Saints broke the game open. Keling and Brad Ridings drew consecutive walks, and
Tyler Omlid tripled into the corner in right to score both runners.
Daniel Barnett had a sac bunt to score Omlid as the Saints built a 6-2 advantage. Saints pitchers took over and retired 13 straight Lindenwood batters, highlighted by a dazzling, full-out diving catch in left center by Carriger with one out in the top of the eighth. The Maryville pitching staff kept the Lions off the scoreboard and hung seven straight zeros. The Lions pushed across one run in the top of the ninth but Omlid ran deep into foul territory to make a difficult catch to end the game.
The Saints improve to 16-24, while the Lions dip to 16-28. Maryville returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday as they travel to face Missouri S&T in a 1 p.m. start. The series was moved up to avoid possible inclement weather forecast for Sunday.
