Saints Women's Soccer Settles for 2-2 Draw at Southern Indiana

Box Score Evansville, Ind. – The Maryville women's soccer team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but host Southern Indiana scored a late equalizer and the teams settled for a 2-2 tie in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match up.
 
The Saints drew a foul in the penalty area in the sixth minute of action, and Amanda Wiechens converted from the spot to hand Maryville the lead. The visitors doubled their lead in the 24th minute of play. Shannon Foley led Katy Rood who converted for her third goal of the season. The Screaming Eagles pulled one score back when Madi Vellky tallied in the 34th minute to cut the Maryville edge to 2-1. She nearly scored again for USI but Saints keeper Bailey Doerflinger made the save.
 
Mariah Allen-Harris put a shot on goal early in the second but her effort was saved. Vellky again had a strong chance for USI but her attempt hit the crossbar. In the 77th minute, it was the Saints who were denied by the woodwork as Ashley Pogue's attempt hit the crossbar. However, in the 89th minute, USI finally pulled even as the Screaming Eagles scored on a restart to tie the game at 2-2.
 
Neither team put a shot on goal in the two extra sessions as the game ended in a draw. The Saints are 3-1-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the GLVC. The Screaming Eagles stand at 1-4-1 overall, 0-3-1 in the league.
